My apologies for the delay in getting this entry written.
Following the last entry, my wife and I took a brief drive to Southwestern Colorado to visit relatives. We were there from February 5th to the 11th. On our way back, weather forced us to stay overnight in Green River, UT. That night, I started a four+ hour series of diarrhea (12 times) and vomiting (6 times). After seeing that this wouldn't stop, I had my wife call for an ambulance to take me to the nearest hospital (62 miles away). By the time I was at the hospital, the diarrhea had run its course, though the intense nausea remained. I was given IV Zofran, two liters of NS and some morphine for the horrendous headache that developed because of all the vomiting.
Labs were drawn to check on the health of the kidney, and I spoke with the attending physician extensively. The bloodwork came back clean, and after about two hours, I was feeling better and ready to go back to our hotel.
Apparently, I had simply picked up a stomach virus from somewhere--despite all of my health precautions--and it simply needed to finish its nasty effects. The next day (13 Feb), we concluded our drive home. So, not exactly a great way to end what was otherwise a nice trip. Oh well...better to take of the kidney than to assume all is well, only to have a severe issue develop later because of neglect.
Next, after all of that, I have an eventful two weeks ahead of me. On Tuesday (19 Feb) I have my monthly labs in the morning, then the Belatacept infusion in the afternoon.
On Wednesday (20 Feb) I have the Parathyroidectomy, followed by an overnight stay on the Transplant patient floor.
Then next Wednesday (27 Feb), I have the one-week follow-up of the surgery up at IMC.
The next day (28 Feb), I will be seeing my local Nephrologist for the beginning--again--of my healthcare transition away from the Kidney Clinic.
*Speaking of moving on to my doctor, the physicians at the Kidney Clinic stated that, because of the issues I have been having following my transplant, instead of watching my progress [with my Nephrologist] for two years post-Clinic, they will be keeping an eye on me for three years. Wow! I am breaking the mold once again!
Despite the fact that this entry is the first of this entire month, it may also be the ONLY entry of February. IF I am feeling up to typing another entry about the surgery, I will. Otherwise, you may not see my next entry until early March.
I had thought about going into how I have been doing in general, but decided instead to just talk about the things above.
