Post-TransplantUpdate: 20 May 2017

Very quickly...

YES, I DID get my transplant!  (YAY!!!)

However, I am still not up to writing out what will be a very long blog. That will possibly happen in two or three more weeks of recovery. I still cannot sit straight up for more than a few minutes at a time. So, as soon as I can, the entire experience will be typed up and posted.

Until then, I want to Thank each and every reader for all of your thoughts and prayers that were so instrumental in a successful transplant! THANK YOU, so very much!

Good Health to All!

Transplant News!

Finally, after seven and a half years (nearly five of which have been on dialysis), I received a call today that carries a "strong probability" that I will get my transplant TOMORROW, 04 May 2017!!!

While not yet a 100% guarantee, my coordinator feels that this organ is mine!

My brain is a jumble, so I won't try to write out info so...

Tidbits of info about My Call...

*I am currently #2 on the list for my blood type.

*The #1 patient is not ready for transplant due to feeling ill.

*The surgeons are trying to match this organ with either a heart or liver transplant at the same time as the other, but my coordinator doesn't see this happening.

*The organ will be harvested tomorrow morning, and will be ready for me by the time I am finished with dialysis. (They'd have to dialyze me anyhow since it's been two days since my last session.)

*My coordinator stated, "You WILL hear from me tomorrow morning with good news!"

*I am being cross matched RIGHT NOW for compatibility!

*I mentioned that after all this time, I hope that my kidney is a good one, that is young and healthy. My coordinator, without violating HIPA laws (confidentiality/disclosure laws) asked what my last KDPI score was. I said, "29. A number that is about half of what it should be for a man my age." He then stated, "That would match up pretty closely."
In other words, the donor is young healthy and in overall good shape!

So...I'm excited, nervous and READY!!!

If you hear from me again in the next day or so, that the miniscule chance that I don't get the kidney has happened.

Otherwise, it will be two to three weeks before I post again, and it will be with pictures and as many details as I can give.

The next phase awaits!

Stay tuned!
